The Netherlands signs first bilateral agreement on sustainable palm oil from Colombia

Intention Statement is outcome of Roundtable on sustainable palm oil with Dutch minister of Agriculture Schouten in Bogota

MVO has signed an intention statement with the Colombian National Federation of Oil Palm Growers (Fedepalma), Solidaridad and IDH, The Sustainable Trade Initiative to improve sustainable practices in Colombian palm oil industry. The Statement includes commitments from Colombian sector on zero deforestation and answers the already existing commitments for certified sustainable palm oil in The Netherlands.

The Statement was signed during the Roundtable meeting on sustainable palm oil in Bogota on 28th of November. The Roundtable was hosted by the Minister of Agriculture of The Netherlands, Carola Schouten, and the Vice Minister for Agriculture of Colombia Marcella Urena, and attended by Colombian and Dutch industry and civil society organizations, including MVO.

MVO has supported the organization of the Roundtable as part of the trade mission from minister to Colombia. As part of the Statement MVO will contribute to an annual monitoring report by sharing data on the use of CSPO in the Netherlands and activities on sustainable palm oil of relevant MVO members active in Colombia.
