Endorsement European Guide industrial manufacturing safe feed materials

From 1 July 2010 onwards, the European Commission endorsed the European Guide to good practice for the industrial manufacturing of safe feed materials.

This guide has been developed by the European oilseed and protein meal industry (FEDIOL) and the European starch industry (AAF)in the framework of the European Feed Ingredients Platform (EFIP) in consultation with the European Feed Manufacturers Federation (FEFAC).

The guide provides clear and transparent guidelines for the EU manufacturers of the feed materials in question. It shows the strong commitment of the starch & oilseed and protein meal industries to further improve the level of feed safety for the feed and food chain on the European Market. AAF and FEDIOL represent jointly about 80% of the two sectors' manufacturers which trigger an annual production volume of roughly 25 million tons of feed materials.

In parallel, a feed materials safety code and a voluntary certification system were developed which will be managed by the European Feed Ingredients Safety Certification Association (EFISC Aisbl).
