EFIP symposium on 5 April 2011

On April 5th, 2011, the European Feed Ingredients Platform (EFIP) will organize a symposium on 'The Contribution of Sector Guides and Certifiable Codes to Feed Safety in the EU'. The EFIP symposium will start at 14.00 h at the National Belgium Library, Auditorium Lippens, in Brussels.

Speakers from the European Commission DG Health and Consumer protection, DG Agriculture and the Food and Veterinary Office, as well as FEFAC, EFIP and feed safety scheme owners will present their views on and understandings of the present situation and the way forward. Please see the agenda for more information.

The aim of the symposium is to explore and discuss the present situation of feed safety in the EU with the different stakeholders. A number of key issues, such as the responsibility of the industry sectors, the role of the European Guides and certifiable feed safety management schemes in supporting the supply of safe feed as well as the specific role of feed ingredient suppliers will be discussed. The symposium also gives the opportunity to get to know more about the activities of EFIP, its members and its certification schemes: FAMI-QS, GTP and EFISC.

EFIP invites all concerned stakeholders in the feed and food chain to participate and contribute in the discussions during this event. Click here for the registration form.

The main goal of EFIP is European harmonisation of feed safety standards for the production and trade of feed ingredients. MVO is involved in the setting up and implementation of the international feed ingredients standard EFISC. MVO encourages MVO companies to use EFISC and to certify their plants against this standard. A list of EFISC certified companies as well as companies under review for EFISC certification can be found on the EFISC website under 'Certified Companies'.

MVO course Food Safety of Vegetable Oils and Fats

From 12 to 14 April 2011, the Product Board MVO organizes for the second time the course 'Food Safety of Vegetable Oils and Fats'. The course will focus on the food safety aspects related to the vegetable oils and fats chain starting from the arrival at the port of Rotterdam until the receipt at the margarine plant. The course will combine theoretical lectures by experts from the industry with excursions to an oil storage facility, a refinery and a margarine factory.

The course is at BSc level (in English) and has been particularly designed for people working in the oils and fats sector. For more details see the course brochure. Enrolment for the MVO course is possible via the online registration form.

The MVO course includes an (optional) seminar day 'Sustainable Sourcing: Soy & Palm Oil' on Monday 11 April 2011. This seminar gives an overview of the latest developments both on national (Task Forces for Palm Oil and Soy) and international (RSPO, RTRS) level. The seminar is also open for non-course members.
See the seminar invitation for details.
