EU/Marokko: EP stemt over nieuwe vrijhandelsafspraken oliën en vetten
Het Europees Parlement zal op 15 februari a.s. stemmen over de vrijhandelsprotocollen die de Europese Commissie en Marokkaanse autoriteiten in december 2009 (!) zijn overeengekomen. Beide partijen hebben destijds in de tekst laten opnemen dat zij ernaar streven om de vrijhandelsafspraken op 1 januari 2011 in werking te laten treden.   Read more

Malaysia issues its annual duty free export quota for crude palm oil: Export taxes palm oil on EU agenda
After several weeks of delay this weekend at least three Malaysian palm oil companies finally received a licence from their government for the duty free export of crude palm oil (CPO). This was confirmed by several local media and international press agencies.   Read more

EU/Morocco: 15 February European Parliament’s vote on new bilateral free trade provisions for oils and fats
On 15 February 2012 the European Parliament (EP) will finally have its vote on the new EU/Morocco free trade protocols for agricultural products, including a wide range of oils and fats. The bilateral negotiations between the EU and Morocco were concluded on 14 December 2009 with the explicit intention of both the European Commission and the Moroccan authorities that these protocols should enter into force from 1 January 2011.   Read more

EU to approve 5 new GM soybean events this year
The EU is expected to approve no less than five new GM soybean traits for import, processing and food/feed application (no cultivation) this year. Among these envisaged approvals there are not only herbicide tolerant soy traits but also, for the first time ever in the EU, an insect resistant soybean, a high oleic soybean and a "stacked" soybean.   Read more

US approves MON 87705 soybean event for cultivation
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has determined that Monsanto’s high oleic / low linolenic soybean event MON 87705 is unlikely to pose a plant pest risk and therefore is no longer subject to regulations governing the introduction of certain GMOs.   Read more

Dutch Economy Minister stresses active support for duty free EU access for sustainable palm oil
Last Monday the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation Maxime Verhagen announced in a speech that he will actively support duty free EU market access for crude palm oil (CPO) that meets the sustainability criteria of the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and is used for food applications CN heading (1511.1090).   Read more

EU/Norway: new trade preferences for oils and fats as of 1 January 2012
On 10 December the EU published an official notice concerning the entry into force of the agreement between the EU and Norway that covers a new package of additional tariff preferences for agro and food products, including a wide range of oils and fats. This agreement, which was officially published on 9 December, will enter into force on 1 January 2012.   Read more

WTO accession Russia: agreed cuts in customs duties on oilseeds, oils and fats
On 15 December 2011, the Ministers of the WTO member states are expected to accept Russia as a new member. After ratification by Russia’s parliament, it will enter the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the first half of 2012.   Read more
