UK's rapeseed exports will rise to cover Germany's deficit
The EU crop of rapeseed is set to decline by 9% to 18.7-18.9 million tonnes in 2011 mainly due to the very poor harvest in Germany (-28% to 4.1 million tonnes). Only in France (+0.52 million tonnes) and in the United Kingdom (+0.28 million tonnes) this crop turned out better than expected.   Lees meer

Ample supplies make sun oil attractive substitute for rapeseed oil
The expected record crops in Russia, Ukraine and Romania and the very good harvest of sunflower seed in the European Union have significantly reduced sunflower seed prices during the past two months. The resulting excellent crush margins have stimulated purchases of sunflower seed by crushers, partly replacing rapeseed and soybeans.   Lees meer

Strong increase of Southeast Asian palm oil production

Chinese demand for soybeans will increase by 6% in 2011/2012
Driven by growth in disposable income the Chinese consumption of animal protein products and vegetable oils continues its upward trend. To meet this increasing demand China's oilseed crushing will increase by 7% to just over 92.6 million tonnes in 2011/2012, in particular soybeans (61.5 million tonnes) and rapeseed (14.5 million tonnes). The additional volume of 6 million tonnes will be mainly covered by more imports of soybeans (+5.5% to 58 million tonnes).   Lees meer

Booming biodiesel production in Brazil and Argentina but decline in the U.S.A.
The manufacturing of biodiesel in Brazil (+46%) and Argentina (+70%) increased sharply to volumes of approximately 2 million tonnes in 2010. The production in the U.S.A. showed an opposite development: -42% to almost 1.1 million tonnes.   Lees meer

WBG publishes draft report about sustainability of the palm oil sector
During 2010 the World Bank Group (WBG) undertook a review of the global significance of the palm oil sector including impacts on employment, income generation, export earnings and poverty reduction on the one hand and environmental impacts on the other. Indonesia divided over forest moratorium
Indonesia's government aim is to finalize the two-year moratorium in a short term but different views exist about the type of forest and size of the area which have to be included in the ban (Reuters). State Secretary of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation, Henk Bleker has sent a letter to the First Chamber of Parliament in response to questions posed by the permanent Commission for Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.
