The Product Board's Factsheet Rapeseed (in English) is meant to provide insight in the most striking developments in world production, consumption and trade of rapeseed and rapeseed oil, with special attention for the EU 27.

One of the most noticeable developments is an expected production growth for rapeseed of 13 percent in 2008. In this development the rise of the Ukraine as a producer may be called remarkable. The EU 27 was by far the world's biggest producer of this oilseed in 2007 with a production of 18.2 million tons but takes only a small part in the production growth which is expected for 2008.

In the last years EU consumption of rapeseed oil has constantly risen mainly because of the extra demand coming out of biodiesel industry. Dutch rapeseed processing has grown spectacularly, partly due to this factor, from 25,000 tons in 2005 to almost 522,000 in 2007.
