The sectoral risk analyses are an illustration of these efforts and are meant for companies in the MVO sector as an important tool in the realization of a HACCP plan at factory level. Moreover, the risk analyses have an important value in the dialogue between buyers, suppliers and other stakeholders like the Dutch supervisory body, the VWA.
The risk analyses list the safety hazards that may occur throughout the production chains, from crop cultivation or slaughter of the animal up to the delivery of the end product to feed or food industry. The risk analyses indicate the level of risk that each hazard will pose to feed or food safety and whether this has to be controlled by a measure as part of a prerequisite programme or by a critical control point. In addition, the risk analyses list applicable legal and trade limits and they formulate necessary measures that need to be taken to reduce the hazards to acceptable levels.
The essence of this sectoral approach is that all companies involved share their knowledge. In this way, a complete picture of all possible risks is created. Moreover, it leads to a higher awareness within companies regarding potential new risks. Therefore, the risk analyses contribute to improved communication and will thus help strengthening the safety of the feed and food chain.
