MVO Code of Practice on Dioxin

Awaiting the outcome of the discussions at European level, the MVO Code of Practice on Dioxin has become effective from June 1st, 2011.

The code includes a monitoring plan for the analysis of samples on dioxin throughout the whole oils and fats chain. Apart from that, the code contains a plan for the labelling of oils and fats and their products. In addition, it contains agreements to categorize particular products as products that require further processing before use in feed as well as to ban certain products completely for food and feed purposes.

The European Commission intends to submit a proposal for measures regarding dioxin in feed for voting at the next meeting of the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCoFCAH), section animal nutrition on 6 and 7 July 2011.

MVO opposed against the latest draft of the proposal (beginning of June), by sending
a letter to the EU Commission. These comments in particular addressed the measures announced for the fat blenders, since this group of companies is not organised in a specific branch organisation at European level (like FEDIOL and EFPRA).
