 Educational needs survey

In close understanding with the Product Board MVO and the unions FNV Bondgenoten and CNV BedrijvenBond the Labor Division in 2005 has done a survey among 30 production companies in the oils and fats industry concerning training and education. This survey was meant to define the educational needs of employees, and to determine which contribution the Product Board MVO might have in this.

Total response was 76% or in other words 24 out of 30 companies. Based on the results of this survey personal depth interviews were next carried out at 1 refining company, 1 used fats recycling company, 1 producer of margarines and sauces and 1 oleochemical company.

Survey and interviews lead to the following recommendations:

  • Supplement knowledge on products from the oils and fats industry in the educational program for process operators: knowledge on raw materials, fatty acid chemistry, basic chemistry, oils and fats production chain;
  • Start an information project on the chain/sector, from raw material to final product, possibly in combination with trips to other types of companies related to the sector (suppliers and buyers);
  • Set up an oils and fats training course at operator's level with a lot of information on products, processes and production and distribution chain; I
  • nitiate so-called EVC projects (translate practical working experience to recognized certificates or diplomas) for employees who have such an interest.

The First three recommendations have lead to the developing of the MVO Knowledge Centre, the fourth is followed-up by the Labor Division.
